About Me

Picture
Hi! Thank you for stopping by!

My name is JoAnn and I love Jesus.  After staring at a blank screen for a long time, I have come to the realization that if you only remember one thing about me.. it would be just that.  HOWEVER, I will share a bit more! I serve as the children's director at Graffiti 2 Community Ministries in the South Bronx.  I love dogs.  Like, I really love dogs.  I could stop and play with every pup I come across if I wasn't perpetually running late.  I am a picky eater.  My biggest fear was that the Lord would call me to serve in a place where I would be forced to eat bugs or guinea pigs (both of which I have done!) I am a breast cancer survivor.  I want to be adventurous. I am messy.  I appreciate having people in my life who are not and inspire me to organize! I am quiet.  I gravitate towards people who are not afraid to be loud, funny, and outgoing.  I am unfinished.  The Lord is still shaping me in to the person He has created me to be.  Sometimes it is comforting, other times it hurts, but He has never left me.  I chose Trust Without Boarders as the name for my blog because I asked Him to lead me here.  I am in a place where I have to trust him completely with my health, my finances, my family, and my future.  Its quite a ride. Thanks for coming along!

My families live in Texas.  My dad, Alberto, is the most hard working man I know.  He has a heart that inspires me to be kind and caring.  My mom, Martha, has strength and courage that I often draw upon when I cant find my own.  She has taught me that it is the Lord that fills her and I am blessed to get the overflow.  I have an amazing younger brother, Caleb.  He is 18 years younger, starting college, and I love him with all of my heart. He is funny.  Even when he was little, he would make me laugh.  Not in the way little kids can be cute and make you chuckle, but in the witty, quick, hilarious way that your best friend makes you laugh. God has big things in store for him.

My SWAN family consists of a group of friends who have chosen to be family.  Dr. Gus and Leticia Reyes are the anchors of our Swan family.  As the first to attend college in my family, I was flying blind.  I had no idea what would be expected of me or how to even seek help.  They gave me guidance and pointed me to the Lord in every situation.  My Swan sisters are Andrea, Ledy, and Liz.  These girls have forever impacted my life.  They are each gifted in such unique ways and continue to make my life rich.  As families often do, our Swan family grew and I gained two brothers and 4 incredible nieces and a nephew on the way.

You will hear these names often:
Dr. Gus and Leticia Reyes (Andrea's parents, Eden and Ava Kate's grandparents)
Andrea  and Fabian, daughters: Eden and Ava Kate
Ledy and Danny, daughter: Annelyse, Ella, and Baby O (on the way)
Liz, fur baby: Rocko the dog
Me, fur babies: Kit and Luna (cats and protectors of my apartment) and Cinna (she has forgotten all about me and claimed my mom as her own)

I am thankful for the family the Lord has given me in New York! Graffiti 2 staff Andrew, Josh, and Kerri are such encouragers.  They are funny and my go-to peeps here in the neighborhood. Graffiti 2 family is all around me.  We all live nearby and are just a call or yell down the street away.  Except Kyiva. She is away serving our country.  Proud of you, Kyiva!!!
